Preventing Falls

Each year, more than 1/3 of Americans age 65 & older will experience a fall

One bad fall can lead to:

  • Lengthy Hospital Stay
  • Painful Rehabilitation
  • Loss of Independence, or Worse!

Each Year,
340,000 falls
result in broken hips

Only 1/2
of older adults hospitalized for a broken hip return home or live on their own after the injury.

Balance-related falls account for
more than 50%
of all accidental deaths in elderly

Falls don’t “just happen,” and people don’t fall because they get older.  Often, more than one underlying cause or risk factor is involved in a fall.
The Good News is many underlying causes of falls can be treated or corrected.
